The Fall Of Quebec

The Fall Of Quebec

The fall of Quebec was a turning point in Canadian history, changing it from a French colony to a British colony. Had this battle gone the other way, English might be the second language, not French. The battle of Quebec was one of many battles during the 'Seven Year War'. They called it the Maritime War.
It was officially declared in May 1756. Britain and Prussia were on one side and France, Spain, and Austria on the other. The war moved across the Atlantic Ocean from Europe because the French and the British were fighting over furs and land.

Founding Of Rome

Founding Of Rome
The Founding of Rome is very much embroiled in myth.
Traces found by archaeologists of early settlements of the Palatine Hill date back to ca 750 BC.
This ties in very closely to the established legend that Rome was founded on 21 April 753 BC, which was traditionally celebrated in Rome with the festival of Parilia.
Two founding legends exist - Romulus and Remus and Aeneas.
Rather than contradict each other, the tale of Aeneas adds to that of Romulus and Remus

Battles of Salamis and Plataea

The Battles of Salamis and Plataea

Salamis, a city on an island off the southwestern coast of central Greece where there was a narrow channel of water between the island and the mainland, was to be the final stand for the Athenians.

Knowing that winter would soon be arriving, King Xerxes decided on a naval assault on the remaining Athenians and their naval forces stationed at Salamis. The Persian naval fleet were lessened somewhat thanks to a storm, but still a larger force than the Greeks. King Xerxes himself had a throne upon a cliffside to watch the naval battle as it happened.

Historiography of Medieval India

Historiography of Medieval India
“History to be above evasion or dispute, must stand on documents, not opinions.”
Lord Acton
There is no dearth of Muslim historical works on medieval India. Muslims have been prolific writers of history. Pre-Islamic traditions of writings were in the form of Qasidas or odes and geneologies. When Islam appeared on the scene, historical consciousness became inherent in the faith.
The interpretation of the Quran rendered historical knowledge indispensable. The military achievements of the new creed needed to be maintained in chronological order. The retaining of records of treaties between early Islamic states and conquered people implied composition of historical works.

TITANIC

Story of Titanic-April 14

IT’S TIME TO REMEMBER TITANIC
(April 14)

On April 10, 100 years ago, a luxury liner set sail from Southampton with more than 2,200 people on board. Bound for New York City harbour, it became famous because it didn't reach its destination - instead, on the night of Sunday, April 14, the RMS Titanic struck an iceberg and by the following morning, the ship had sunk and 1,514 passengers and crew were lost forever to the icy waters.
