International Day of Persons with Disabilities

 

The Departments of Political Science and Deparment of History jointly organized the commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, as well as the launch of HEPSN, a cell for students with special needs in higher education. The ceremony was inaugurated by the principal, Dr. Muhammed Basheer Ummathur, who emphasised the significance of inclusivity and giving chances for people with disabilities in higher education. He also discussed the initiatives and programmes of the college aimed at fostering an inclusive and creative atmosphere on campus.

The day's guest speaker was Hamza Jaisal, a prominent motivational speaker and trainer who spoke about the significance of the observation. Mr. Shabeermon M, Head of the Department of History, presided over the programme, and felicitations were offered by the IQAC Coordinator, Dr. Shahina Mol A K, and Assistant Professors of History, Mr. Faizal Tk, Jaseena C and Dr. Shiji K P. Mr. Murshid Kunnath Naduthodi, Head of the Department of Political Science and Programme Coordinator, welcomed everyone involved, and Shahana, student of II BA History, gave the vote of thanks. Students and faculty from the departments of History attended the event organised in the college auditorium, K.A.H.M Unity Women's College, Manjeri on 5th december 2023.

Refresher Course


Mr. Shabeermon M, Assistant professor, Department of History, Korambayil Ahamed Haji Memorial Unity Women's College in Manjeri, successfully completed the Two Week Online Interdisciplinary Refresher Course on "Social and Cultural Context in Indian History" from November 9 to November 23, 2023, and achieved a Grade A+. The course was offered by the Teaching Learning Centre, Ramanujan College, University of Delhi, in collaboration with  Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching, Ministry of Education, Government of India. 

Constitution Day


As part of the Samvidhan Diwas (Constitution Day) celebrations organised by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India, the staff and students of the Department of History, K.A.H.M. Unity Women's College, Manjeri, took part in an online quiz on "Bharat: Loktantra ki Janani" and the reading of the Preamble to the Indian Constitution on November 26, 2023. Four staff and 37 students were able to obtain participation certificates from the website of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Govt. of India

Alumni Talk Series

Sixth talk of the Alumni Lecture Series organised by the department of History was held on Monday, 20th November 2023 in the Seminar Hall. Ms. Najiya Nasrin, Hadia Advanced Trainer ( Alumna - 2012-2015 UG Batch) Spoke on the topic 'Embrace the Ecstasy of Existence'. She engaged the students in various activities and delivered a motivational talk that left the students elated. The session proved to be incredibly impactful for the students. Staff and students of the department attended the programme. Programme coordinator Ms. Jaseena C, Assistant Professor of History, welcomed the gathering and Ms Fathima Thasni.k, Vice chairman of College Union rendered vote of thanks.

Talk on Office Procedures

On 02/11/2023, Mr. Muhammadali Kanniyan, Senior Clerk, K. A. H. M Unity College ,  was invited to deliver a talk on college office procedures to the students of the History Department during the association programme. The purpose of the talk was to provide valuable insights into the functioning of college administrative processes and enhance the students' understanding of these procedures.He emphasized the need for students to be aware of these procedures as they may encounter various administrative tasks during their academic journey. He discussed the process of student admission and registration, including deadlines, required documents, and the role of the admissions office. He provided insights into how courses are scheduled, how students can enroll in classes, and the importance of adhering to the academic calendar. The talk covered the procedures for fee payment, scholarships, and financial aid opportunities available to students.His talk on college office procedures was informative and well-received by the History Department students. The talk encouraged students to proactively engage with college offices and make the most of the services and resources available. Dr. Shiji, Association teacher in charge, welcomed the gathering and Association secretary rendered vote of thanks.

PTA Meeting

 On November 2nd, 2023, the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting for the Final Year BA History students took place in Room A108.  26 parents participated in the meeting. The discussion revolved around the students' performance in the internal examinations conducted in October 2023. Tutor Faizal TK addressed the parents, providing an overview of the students' performance in the examination and areas of improvement. Additionally, the PTA meeting touched upon the upcoming study trip to North India and the significance of the History dissertation.

Unity Women's College, Manjeri, Malappuram, Kerala, have attended the 42nd ANNUAL SESSION of SOUTH INDIAN HISTORY CONGRESS organised by the Department of History, University College Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala on 28,29,30 October 2023. Faizal's topic of paper presentation was " SACRED AS POLITICAL: THE ROLE OF MOSQUEIMASJID] IN MALABAR REBELLION 1921" and Ms. Jaseena presented on " MAMBURAM TANGALS AND THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS: A STUDY OF THE ROLE OF SAYYID FAZL POOKOYA THANGAL IN THE ANTI COLONIAL STRUGGLE...

Movie Screening


 The Department of History, K.A.H.M Unity Women's College, Manjeri, organised a talk on "The Israel-Hamas Conflict: Understanding the Intricate Web of Past and Present Turmoil" on October 26, 2023. The speaker, Engineer O. Abdul Ali, shed light on the complexities and historical context of the ongoing conflict. The talk was extremely informative and highlighted the various perspectives and factors contributing to the conflict. The moderator, Faizal Tk, Assistant Professor, Department of History, moderated the program. Following the talk, there was a screening of the film "Farha," which depicted the life of a Palestinian girl during the 1948 Arab-Israel War, providing a glimpse into the human experiences amid the conflict. Hanan, History Association Secretary, delivered heartfelt vote of thanks.

Movie Screening

On 13 October 2023, screening of the movie "Pazhassiraja" took place in Room no. A 108 at 1:30 pm. This screening was specifically organized for the fifth semester BA history students, as the story of Pazhassiraja who fought against the British in Malabar, formed a part of their Kerala History syllabus. The movie provided an immersive and visual representation of the historical events and struggles faced by Pazhassiraja. It allowed the students to gain a deeper understanding of the context and significance of his resistance against the British rule. 

Talk on The Israel- Hamas Conflict

 

On October 12, 2023, a talk was conducted by the Department of History, Korambayil Ahamed Haji Memorial Unity Women's College Manjeri on the topic "Hamas-Israeli Conflicts: Understanding the Historical Context." The talk took place at the Association Hall and featured BA History students Shiyana K, Farhanath Noori, and Shibla UK as presenters. They provided an insightful analysis of the historical background of the ongoing conflicts between Hamas and Israel, shedding light on the root causes and complexities of the issue. The students' well-researched views offered a broader understanding of the conflict to the audience, fostering a more informed and nuanced perspective on this long standing dispute. Association Secretary Ms. Fathima Thasni moderated the program. Teachers and the students of the department attended the programme.

 Faizal Tk, Assistant Professor in History, K. A. H. M. Unity Women's College, Manjeri, Malappuram, Kerala participated and successfully completed UGC sponsored online "Refresher Course in History" organized by UGC- Human Resource Development Centre, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad from 26th September to 9th October, 2023 and obtained Grade "A"

The Roots of Conflicts in the Global South

 On September 29, 2023, the Department of History, Korambayil Ahamed Haji Memorial Unity Women's College, Manjeri hosted a talk on the theme "The Roots of Conflicts in the Global South" at the CH Auditorium. The opening address was given by Principal Prof. (Dr.) Muhammad Basheer Ummathur, who emphasized the differences between the Global North and the Global South. Dr. Lirar Pulikkalakath, Assistant Professor, School of International Politics and Relations, Mahatma Gandhi University, delivered an interesting talk on the various causes of conflicts in the Global South. Following the presentation, a discussion session was held, during which Shabeermon M, Head of the Department of History, Dr. Shahina Mol A K, IQAC Coordinator, Mr. Murshid, Head of the Department of Political Science, and Dr. V Hikmathulla, Head of the Department of Malayalam, shared their views on the topic. The gathering was welcomed by Ms Jaseena C, Coordinator and Assistant Professor of History, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Nafla T. P, student of III year BA History student. The programme was specifically organized for students of the History department

Digital Poster Making Workshop

 Mr. Shabeermon M acted as a resource person in a skill development workshop on E-Poster Making exclusively for the first-year BSc Mathematics students on September 14, 2023. The workshop, organised by the Department of Mathematics, was conducted at the College Digital Studio and was facilitated by Mr. Shabeer Mon M, the Head of the Department of History. The workshop provided valuable guidance on poster design using various apps to the students

Work Readiness Programme for Final BA History Students

A three day Work Readiness Programme was organized for final year History students by ASAP on 12th, 13th and 14th September 2023, with special focus on employability and twenty first century skills. Intended to channelise young women towards appropriate career options and choices, the three day session conducted by Adv. Bilal worked upon communication skills, confidence building, technologies for progression and other capacities towards economic independence after graduation. Mr. T. K. Faizal addressed the students during the commencement of the session and head of the department of History Mr. Shabeer Mon initiated  the winding up ceremony presided over by the acting Principal, Dr. K. Fousi. The training was organised by ASAP coordinator, Ms. M. K. Vineetha.


Career Guidance Session for BA History Students

On September 7, 2023, a collaborative event titled "Exploring Research Opportunities and Career Prospects in the Field of Social Sciences" was organized by the Career Guidance Cell and the Seethi Sahib Chair for Cultural and Political Studies. The event featured two distinguished speakers: Mr. Ahsan Kottangodan, a PhD Research Scholar at Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi, and a Development Consultant, along with Ms. Sumayya Farvi K. K, a Project Associate at the Eklavya Foundation, Bhopal. During the session, they not only shared their valuable experiences but also provided valuable insights to students regarding the aptitude, methodologies, and significance of conducting research in the realm of social sciences. The participants of this engaging session consisted of final-year degree students majoring in BA English, BA History, and BSc Psychology.

Mind Matters

 On September 5, 2023, the Department of History, KAHM Unity Women's College, Manjeri organized a mental health awareness program titled "Mind Matters: Nurturing Mental Health Awareness." The program featured Muheena Tasneem, Psychologist and College Counselor, as the resource person. In her speech, Muheena shared various ways in which students can recover from different types of mental illnesses. She also emphasized the importance of maintaining mental health and its impact on leading a balanced life. Nafla T.P, III BA History student, welcomed the gathering, and Najia delivered the vote of thanks. The program was specifically organized for the first and third year undergraduate students of the History department.

The research article titled "Disciplining the Women in Medieval Kerala: A Study of Manṇapeti and Pulapeti" written by Dr. Shiji K. P., Assistant Professor (ADHOC), Department of History, K.A.H.M Unity Women's College, Manjeri and Dr. V. V. Haridas, Professor, Department of History, University of Calicut, Kerala, was published in the Journal of the Asiatic Society, Volume LXV, Number 2, 2023. The article delves into the examination of Manṇapeti and Pulapeti, two significant practices in medieval Kerala that aimed at regulating and controlling women. Through their study, the authors shed light on the social and cultural aspects of these practices, providing valuable insights into the disciplining of women in the historical context of Kerala.

Inter-departmental Quiz competition

 On August 17, 2023, the Department of History, Korambayil Ahamed Haji Memorial Unity Women's College, Manjeri organized an Inter-departmental Quiz competition at CH auditorium. The competition revolved around the Indian Independence Movement from 1885 to 1947 and attracted participation of seven teams representing five departments, including BSc Chemistry, BSc Mathematics, BSc Psychology, BA History and B.Com Computer Application. The competition took place at 2:30 PM and showcased the teams knowledge and enthusiasm for the topic. After a rigorous session, the History Department emerged as the winners, securing the first prize. The Chemistry Department clinched the second prize, while the Mathematics Department claimed the third prize. The event was organised as a part of the 77th Indian Independence Day Celebrations.

Bridge Course

 Bridge Course for First-Year BA History Students

The Department of History organized a Bridge Course for the first-year BA History students with the aim of introducing them to various aspects of the program and providing guidance on academic and career pathways. The course was held on 02 August 2023 and featured four staff members who delivered presentations on different topics related to the discipline of History.

Session Details: 

1. Program Structure and Requirements 

Resource Person: Jaseena C

In this session, Jaseena C, Assistant Professor and tutor of first year BA History, provided an overview of the program structure and requirements for the BA History course. She explained the core subjects, elective options, and credit distribution. Jaseena C also highlighted the importance of curriculum planning and the significance of meeting academic prerequisites.

2. Student Support Services and Internal Assessment - Resource Person: Faizal TK

Faizal TK, Assistant Professor and tutor of final year BA History, department, conducted a session on student support services and internal assessment. He discussed the various support services available to students, such as academic counseling, library resources, and extracurricular activities. Faizal TK also explained the internal assessment system, including the evaluation methods and grading criteria.

3. History as a Discipline

Resource Person: Shabeermon

Shabeermon, Head,  department of History, delivered a presentation on the significance of History as a discipline. He emphasized the role of history in understanding the present, analyzing societal changes, and preserving cultural heritage. Shabeermon also discussed the various methodologies and approaches used in historical research.

4. Career Pathways and Opportunities in History

Resource Person: Dr. Shiji K P

Dr. Shiji K P, Assistant Professor (Ad-hoc) and tutor of Second year BA History, enlightened the students on the career pathways and opportunities available in the field of History. She provided insights into the diverse career options, such as academia, research institutions, museums, archives, and public service. Dr. Shiji K P also discussed the skills and qualifications required to excel in these professions. The Bridge Course organized by the Department of History proved to be highly informative and beneficial for the first-year BA History students. Jaseena C served as the coordinator for the Bridge Course, ensuring smooth organization and coordination of the sessions.

Unlocking History


On 13 th June 2023, Fifty final-year BA History students from Korambayil Ahmed Haji Memorial Unity Women’s College Manjeri participated in a cleaning activity at a Colonial-Era British Police Outpost in Pantallur. Anakayam Panchayat President Shri Chandran inaugurated the cleaning programme and promised to protect the historic police outpost. Village Officer Shri Shreejith, Ward members, and others also joined the cleaning effort. The activity was led by History teachers Shabeermon M, Faisal TK, Jasina C, Shri Saleem Padavanna, who is an antiquities collector and exhibitor, and YouTuber Nawas Babu (Master Piece ).

The session commenced with a welcome speech by Fathima Thasni, addressing the topic of Indian wrestlers and their unspoken struggle for justice. The following individuals delivered significant talks on the subject: Irsana E.T., Lubna Sherin K., and Vidya P. Stanly. Their presentations shed light on an important issue that is relatively unknown to many.

Shabeermon, the Head of the Department, and faculty member Jaseena supported and encouraged the speakers, acknowledging the significance of the topic. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Lisna K.

Gandhi Movie Screening


The Department of History at KAHM Unity Women's College Manjeri, with the support of the Digital Studio, MIELES Project, screened the historical biography film Gandhi, directed by Richard Attenborough, on June 7, 2023. 38 students from BA English and BA History viewed the film, which was followed by a discussion about the historical accuracy depicted in the film. Shabeermon, the Head, Department of History, took the initiative to screen the film.

Share and Care - March 2023

 The Post Graduate Department of Computer Science donated 8000 rupees and a month’s worth of grocery items (costing 2854 rupees) to a widow named Fathima Zuhra who lives at Koodakkara on March 21st, 2023. This activity was part of their Share and Care Charity Project. The student representatives of the Department Rinsha K, Fidha K, Reesha Fathima, Jihana ( II BSc CS )and other members of the project visited Maimoona’s home and gave her the money and grocery

On 23rd February 2023, the History Association organised a program called Madhura Malayalam in which the representatives from three history classes are asked to present a topic without using a single Malayalam word. Students from first year Tasni, Shifna and Vismaya and Najia and Jumana from the second year participated in the program. Ansha of second year BA History presided over the association program. Mufeedah, Shifa, Jaseera etc spoke on the occasion. Program Officer Miss Shiji, Head of History Department Shabir Sir, 1st year 2nd year V students participated in the program which ended with Henna's vote of thanks

Association Inauguration 2022-23


  • The History Association inaugurated. 
  • The Head of the History department of Farook College, Dr. Farooq College, said that Kerala Historiography cannot see such growth as the impact of nationalism and social reform movements on Indian history writing. T. Muhammad Ali commented. He is speaking at the inauguration of History Association at Korambayil Ahmed Haji Memorial Unity Women's College Manjeri. Development in the field of Kerala history writing began with the growth of the United Kerala movement. Dr. Muhammadali also opined that the growth of new approaches along with the traditional Kerala history writing has made the field of Kerala history study more dynamic in recent times. Shabirmon M, head of the history department, presided over the event. Malappuram Block Panchayat President Adv. Abdurrahiman Karat delivered the keynote speech. Principal Dr. Muhammad Basheer Ummatur and Manager Engineer O Abdul Ali handed over mementos to Dr. Muhammadali who is retiring from teaching this year. Staff Club Secretary Jasina C, Adam Tanari, Faisal TK, Grace Vari Jose, Union Representative Wajeeda Jabin and Fatima Tasni extended their greetings. History department teacher Dr. Shiji KP welcomed and Association Secretary Ahla P gave vote of thanks.
