Experiential Learning Trip

On December 16 and 17, 2023, 43 first year BA History students from KAHM Unity Women's College, accompanied by three staff members, embarked on an experiential learning trip to Vagamon, Idukky. The purpose of this trip was to provide the students with a hands on understanding of the environmental and historical significance of the region. During the visit, they explored several notable sites in Wagamon, starting with the enchanting Pine Forest. This lush green forest provided an ideal setting for the students to connect with nature while immersing themselves in the environmental context of the area. Students also visited Kurishu Mala, a hill known for its religious significance. The students were fascinated by the ancient cross located at the top of the hill, which served as a testament to the rich religious heritage of Wagamon. Additionally, students had the opportunity to visit Thangal Para, a revered Muslim shrine, and Mottakunnu, a scenic viewpoint offering breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys. These visits not only deepened our students' understanding of the region's environmental history but also provided them with a chance to appreciate the diverse cultural fabric of Wagamon.

Study Trip to Agra, Delhi and Manali

The study tour to Agra, Delhi, and Manali from December 31, 2023, to January 9, 2024, was a significant educational opportunity for the 52 final year BA History students and 3 staff members from the Department of History, KAHM Unity Women's College, Manjeri. The tour aimed to provide a practical understanding of historical sites and landmarks in these cities. During the tour, the students and staff visited several prominent sites that hold historical and cultural significance. In Agra, they explored the iconic Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the Agra Fort, a historic fort with beautiful architecture. In Delhi, they visited the Humayun Tomb, a magnificent mausoleum, and the towering Kuthub Minar. They also had the opportunity to explore the Indira Gandhi Museum and experience the serenity of the Lotus Temple. In addition, the group visited the Red Fort and the Parliament, gaining insights into India's political history. Finally, in Manali, they enjoyed rafting in Kullu and witnessed the breathtaking beauty of Rohtang Pass. The tour provided a comprehensive learning experience, allowing the students to connect with the rich history and culture of these destinations.

History Association Inauguration 2023-24


 Dr. Vineeth R., Assistant Professor, Department of History, University of Calicut, inaugurated the History Association 2023–24 at KAHM Unity Women’s College, Manjeri, on December 20, 2023. His inaugural speech was on the topic "Researching and Writing Local History," which emphasized the significance of research in local history. The speech concluded with an interactive session where students had the opportunity to seek clarification on various aspects of conducting research on local history. The talk was highly beneficial for third year students who are currently engaged in local history research projects. Faizal T K., Head in Charge, Department of History, presided over the inaugural ceremony. The history department staff, Jaseena C, Dr. Shiji KP, and College Union General Secretary Ms. Fathima Thasni, spoke on the occasion. Ms. Haneena, History Association Secretary, welcomed the gathering, and Ms. Jumana, third year BA history student, rendered vote of thanks.
