How to prepare a History project

In order to attain the curriculum objective in history, different strategies are to be adopted in the learning process.
Project have great significance in the study of history.it is a purposeful activity. An important objective of learning history is to acquire competence in finding out solutions to the problems around us.Solution to a problematic situation can be found out only by observing facts related to it,collecting data, analyzing them and formulating conclusions. The project method lays great stress on the actual action or activity on the part of the learners.Nothing is imposed upon them from outside, not even from the teacher, who takes upon himself only the duties of an adviser and guide.

Step-1-Selection of the Problem
This stage is crucial as far as a project is concerned. It may occur naturally. In history, certain developments during the course of the evolution of human society naturally lead the learners to ask “why did that happened?”.Such problematic situations can be solved through projects.
Step-2-Planning
Now the plan for the execution for the project needs to be prepared.
Planning is very important in a project. The success of any project depends largely upon planning and it should be done effectively to realize the objectives.Discussions may be held;the learners and teachers could express opinions and give suggestions. The teacher may point out the difficulties and limitations inherent in the working of the different plans. After taking stock of the resources,a plan for the project should be drawn up.Tools developed should be suitable for collecting sufficient data.It may be a questionnaire, interview schedule etc.All these should be done in a democratic way.The teacher should not impose a project,or its design.
Steps-3-Execution of the Project
When the plan of the project is ready, the class is ready for its execution .Learners distribute the various duties among themselves according to individual interests and capabilities.Groups can be formed for the data collection whenever necessary.
Steps-4-Classification/Analysis/Consolidation
The information gathered are to be classified, analyzed and consolidated in a scientific way.
Conclusion
Conclusions are to be arrived at by analyzing the similarities, contrasts and relations obtained from the analysis of data.
Steps-5-Preparations of project Report
A project report is prepared after arriving at conclusions.Format of the project report is as follows;
1-Topic/Problem(Title)
2-Introduction(importance and need of the project)
3-Tools used
4-Methodology(method of study)
5-Analysis and interpretations
6-Conclusions
7-Suggestions
8-Sources
9-Appendices.

Project are to be evaluated by giving equal weightage to both the process and product.
There are possibilities for several project in History.
1-How far the contemporary india realized the vision of the social reforms of the modern period?.
2-Was partition inevitable?
3-How did Kashmir become an issue between india and pakisthan?
4-Does UNO promote world peace?
5-How can the Palatine issue be solved?
It is not compulsory to do all the above mentioned projects.Other problems also can be selected instead of the above said ones....
