Edackal Caves

Edackal Caves

Edackal caves are located in the Sultan Bathery Taluk of Wayanad district. Edackal caves are one of the most ancient historical remnants of India. The world famous Stone Age pictorials are found in the topmost cave among the Edackal caves. The Edackal caves are standing like one cave on another.
The Edackal caves are having 98 feet length, 22 feet width, 30 feet height. The ancient pictorials are carved in the north and south walls of the cave. The pictorials are carved with sharp stones. The pictorials are about 1 inch deep. Along with the pictures we can find different scripts. These scripts are found to be in ‘Brahmi’, ‘Pali’, ‘Tamil’ and ‘Sanskrit’ languages. But these scripts are carved centuries after the pictographs. The Edackal caves were introduced to the world by an English Police Sup. of Malabar called Mr.F.Foset. The Edackal caves are the hotspot of both the tourists and the historians.
