Thalassery Fort

Thalassery Fort
It was the prominent fort of the British in Kerala. This fort is located at the City of Thalassery in Kannur district bordering the Arabian Sea. The fort is 200 years old and this square shaped fort is standing on 2.5 acres of land. The front door of this fort is built in arch shape, on the both sides of this door there are statues of sepoys which look like standing guard for the fort. The fort walls are 20 feet high and equally strong. Unusually, the fort gate of this fort is 10 feet above the ground and there are steps to reach there. There are so many secret and underground paths which lead to Arabian Sea in this Huge Fort. There is a huge light house in the fort. Thalassery fort had an influencing role in The British’s battles to hold power in Kerala especially in Malabar. They used this fort very effectively in the battles against The Mysore Sultans and Kerala lion Pazhassi Raja.
