KERALA HISTORY CONGRESS

KERALA HISTORY CONGRESS
DEPT. OF HISTORY
GOVT. ARTS AND SCIENCE COLLEGE, KOZHIKODE-18

Golden Jubilee of Govt. Arts & Science College, Kozhikode falls in the academic year 2013-14. On the occasion of the Golden Jubilee, the Post Graduate Dept. of History plans to organize Kerala History Congress on the model of state level history congress. Renowned historians, social scientists, teachers, Research Scholars from all over Kerala are being invited. Reputed historians of national and international acclaim will present papers and lead discussions.  Prof.  Noboru Karashima, a resourceful historian on South Indian History, has kindly consented to participate in the Congress. A special session on Rethinking Periodization in Indian History will also be held. The Congress is proposed to be held on the 1st week of November 2013.  Kerala State Higher Education Council will sponsor the expense of erudite Scholars who are agreed to participate in the congress.

Kerala History Congress envisages to provide an academic platform for a systematic and comprehensive analysis of Kerala history from pre-literate period to the present. The present state of Kerala is the product and culminating point of a long history.  One cannot form any real conception of what Kerala is today without understanding its profound historical dimensions. There are a lot of unsettled disputes and lacunae in our understanding of the successive historical experiences of the people of Kerala. A wide range of differing socio-political and cultural conditions have given tremendous complexity to Kerala society and culture.  Against this backdrop relentless and scintillating academic explorations are inevitable to reconstruct the Kerala history in proper perspective. The Kerala History Congress intends to initiate a continuous academic process in this regard.  The Congress will explore the key periods of Kerala history which gave a distinctive character to the socio-political and cultural formations of this region. As far as the Kerala historical probing is concerned, many areas like gender, ethnicity, environment etc largely remain unexplored. Kerala History Congress intends to concentrate on these areas to make the congress a comprehensive one.
