*Heritage Exploration and Artefact Collection at Ambalavayal*

As part of the Ernad History Museum Collection Drive, a team from KAHM Unity Women’s College, Manjeri, visited Ambalavayal, Wayanad, on 12 February 2025, with the objective of gathering valuable historical artefacts and documents for preservation and research.

The team, comprising College Manager Engineer O Abdul Ali, IQAC Coordinator Dr Shahina Mol A K, Head of the Department of History Shabeermon M, Ernad History Museum Curator Mr Faizal T K, and Technician at Unity MIELES Studio Mr Siraj, explored an old home built by KC Chetty in 1952. The current house owner, Mr Siraj, played a vital role in the collection drive by offering valuable insights and generously donating several antique items.

During an extensive search of the house, the team discovered a rich collection of historical documents and artefacts, including: tiles made in 1908, personal letters from 1935 to 1955, income statements from the 1930s and 1950s, business transaction records, political conference documents, and Harijan welfare-related documents.

These findings provide a remarkable glimpse into the social, economic, and political landscape of the past century, enhancing the understanding of regional history.

Following the collection drive, the team also visited heritage sites in Calicut city. The Department of History extends its heartfelt gratitude to Mr Siraj for his generous contributions and acknowledges the dedication of all team members towards preserving history.
