What is Archaeology

A subdiscipline of anthropology. Anthropology  is the study of humankind.Archaeology is the study of the human past through material remains.

Material remains are collectively referred to as the archaeological record. This includes artifacts (e.g., stone tools, ceramic vessels); features (e.g., housepits, hearths); and ecofacts (e.g., animal bones, plant remains).

Archaeologists have three main goals:

1-Reconstruct Culture History: understand the distribution of archaeological remains through time and space.

2-Reconstruct Past Lifeways: determine past behavior through material remains.

3-Explain the Process of Culture Change: understand how and why cultures change through time.

The process towards the establishment of an autonomous sikh state was completed under ranjith singh in 19^th  century.He belonged to the sukar chakya misl and brought various sikh principalities into one political entity.

The maharaja Ranjith Singh was the embodiment of all the civil and political authority in the state.But he was a benevolent despot and looked to the welfare of the people.

He considered himself as a servant of khalsa and designed his government as “sarkar-i-khalsaji” and struck coin in the name of Guru Nanak and Guru Gobinth Singh.There was a council ministers to help Raja in the task of administration.

I am an UPSC aspirant & have to cover modern India for my GS paper.

I need to know what was Subordinate Isolation Policy of British (& why it was called so, what sort of Isolation???)

Also, what was the Subordinate Union Policy of British (& why it was called so???)

I have surfed internet but am not finding any satisfactory answer.

Pattanam Excavation

Pattanam Excavations 2007

The Pattanam excavations was the first ever multi- disciplinary excavation undertaken in Kerala State.  The first part of the project was a surface survey for archaeological and historical evidence in the region. This was followed by extensive excavations at the early historic urban site of Pattanam. Pattanam is located in Chittatukara Panchayat -Vadakkekkara village, lying between Kodungallur and North Paravur in the Periyar Delta in Ernakulam district, Kerala.

The core foundation of Hindu belief is that Vedas contain source of all knowledge – physical or metaphysical. However in last 100 odd years, this belief has come under scrutiny due to the advances that modern science claims to make.

An entire group of Vedic ‘experts’ have stood up to prove that Vedas contain early man theories and are not compatible with modern discoveries. These include communist historians propelled by commentaries on Vedas by western indologists like Max Muller, Griffith et al and a new breed of intellectuals who initiate all research with assumption that ‘old means defective’.
