Hi Friends... UGC Announced Notification Regarding Procedure & Criteria For Declaration Of Result Of UGC NET To Be Held On 30th December, 2012 This will comprise of following steps: Step I: Minimum marks to be obtained in NET for considering a candidate for the award of JRF and eligibility for lectureship: The candidates are required to obtain following minimum marks separately in Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III as Notified in Initial Notification. Step II: Amongst those candidates who have cleared step I, a merit list will be prepared subject-wise and category-wise using the aggregate marks of all the three papers secured by such candidates. Step III: Top 15% candidates (for each subject and category), from the merit list mentioned under step II, will be declared NET qualified for eligibility for lectureship only. Step IV: A separate merit list for the award of JRF will be prepared from amongst the NET qualified candidates figuring in the merit list prepared under step III. UGC Seminar on ‘Human Rights for Women’

Korambayil Ahamed haji memorial Unity Women’s College, Manjeri, is organizing a UGC Sponsored national seminar on ‘Human Rights for Women’ during the second week of February, 2013. We would like to invite papers from individuals who are interested in participating in the seminar.

Though human rights are universal it has been difficult for women to access these rights on many fronts. Despite the advances women have made in the last couple of decades, human rights and freedom still is a cause of valid concern. Though protection from violence is a human right there are millions of women who face violence of either the physical or mental kind. Though all communities speak of the human right of women regarding marriage like whom, when and if to marry, this is often conveniently ignored.

A clan from Yemen and history of Malabar

There was one family in Malabar whose socio-religious standing the British authorities feared the most for its potential to inspire and mobilise the natives, especially Muslims, against the colonial rulers. It was the descendants of this family, including the most influential member of it, Syed Fazl Thangal, that the authorities furtively extradited to Arabia in March 1852 and ensured that they never returned to the coast of Malabar.      

Who was this Syed Fazl Thangal? How and why he and his family including his famous father, Syed Alawi Thangal, a member of the Ba Alawi clan from Hadhramaut in Yemen, who arrived in Malabar in February 1768 and settled at Mamburam in Malappuram district, to be later known as the Mamburam Thangal, was an important figure in the history of Malabar and its anti-colonial engagements?

The book

A book ‘Mappila Leader in Exile—a political biography of Syed Fazl Thangal’ authored by K.K. Muhammad Abdul Sathar, history professor and head of the History Department, PSMO College Tirurangadi in Malappuram, attempts to give an answer to theses questions while also throwing some light on the socio-political environment of the region during the colonial times.
